The 6th Int. Golden Challenge Roof in Innsbruck's old town was all that they had promised - and much more. This time the weather was perfect and on time at the beginning the sky lit up in pristine blue. For the only storm of the evening was provided by world class athletes traveled with their fabulous performances.
Just over 5.000 enthusiastic spectators the world champion and Africa record holder Ignisious Gaisha sailed with 8.18 m above the desired barrier to a new meeting record and under the Top 10 of the current world rankings. Short behind the Dane Morten Jensen sat with 8.14 m also an international exclamation point.
In the women's long jump, the victory went to the World Cup finalist Teresa Dobija from Poland with 6.54 m, one centimeter before Sostene Moguenara from Germany and Renatá Medgyezová at 6.50 m. All three athletes exeeded the limit for the European Championships. Very encouraging the young Austrian woman Marina Kraushofer, which could be increased to an outstanding 6.26 m and thus clearly exceeded the limit for the Junior World Cup.
In the men´s pole vault the meeting record was the same in duplicate, the obtained two U.S. American Mark Hollis and Jeremy Scott both 5.62 m. Hollis won due to fewer failed attempts. The Golden Roof Challenge before the Golden Roof has certainly shown its enormous potential and provides match atmosphere in an attractive base for sport that deserves more attention in many places.
